ARTISTS STATEMENT

Light is the most important element in my practice as it gives life and energy to my work. My fascination with the ethereal quality of light and how it can be used as a tangible material began with my observation of sunlight’s interaction in the natural world.

I approach my practice as a sculptor and am interested in filling space with fragile dimensional drawings created through the interplay of low-tech lighting and plastics. My inspiration tends to come from 19th century photography, cosmology and Darwinism. I also consider the presentation and documentation of museum exhibits of this period, when realising my sensory site specific installations.

I began collecting discarded plastic bottles from the urban and rural environment after observing how sunlight interacted with this debris. By using these objects in my pseudo scientific installations, I question how litter in the environment has become invisible and its possible effects on nature.
